How Much Financial Proof Do You Need for Scholarships in Italy, the UK, Germany, and France?

When applying for scholarships in Europe, it’s essential to understand the financial proof (also known as proof of funds) required by each country. Even if you’re awarded a scholarship, some embassies still ask for proof that you can cover your living expenses—unless the scholarship is fully funded. Top Scholarships.

Italy

Italy offers several fully funded scholarships, like the DSU scholarship, which cover tuition, meals, and housing. If you win one of these, you may not need to show additional financial proof.

However, if your scholarship only covers part of the costs or if you’re self-funded:

  • You will need to prove access to around €6,000 to €7,000 per year.
  • For the student visa, you must show that you can support yourself with at least €460 monthly.

United Kingdom

The UK has specific financial requirements for student visa applicants. Even if you have a scholarship, unless it covers all your living and tuition expenses, you still need to show funds.

  • For students in London: You must show £1,334 per month for up to 9 months, totaling £12,006.
  • For students outside London: You must show £1,023 per month, totaling £9,207.

Germany

Germany is known for its low-cost education, but international students still need to prove they can afford living expenses.

  • You are required to open a blocked account with around €11,208, which covers one year of living expenses. This money is released in monthly installments during your stay.

France

France also requires students to demonstrate that they can support themselves financially.

  • You must show proof of at least €615 per month, which totals €7,380 per year.
  • This can be shown through your personal bank account, a sponsor’s declaration, or a scholarship award letter.
