A two-year Japanese language scholarship is being offered free of charge to Afghans. This scholarship, which includes Afghans, has started registration on July 23 and will end on August 15, 2025. The scholarships include full coverage of tuition fees and travel expenses. Apply now to register.

JALP 2026 – Pathways to Japan for Afghan Learners

  • 2-year Japanese language study program in private schools across Japan

  • Full tuition waived for selected Afghan students

  • Open to youth in Afghanistan or those displaced after August 2021

  • From 2022–2025, 21 students admitted successfully

  • Backed by schools, NGOs, companies, and communities

  • Goal: Prepare students for university or work in Japan

  • April 2026: 8 new students will be accepted

Eligibility Summary

  • Must be Afghan national

  • Must live in Afghanistan or fled after Aug 2021

  • Single only (no accompanying family)

  • 12 years of education by March 2026

  • Age ≤26 (high school grads) or ≤33 (university grads)

  • Must have studied/study Japanese

  • Must agree to part-time work for personal expenses

  • No obligation to support family financially

  • Refugee background statement (NGO/expert or self-written)

  • Passport (valid by Jan/Oct 2026)

  • High school certificate & transcript (grades 10–12)

  • (If applicable) University certificate & transcript

  • Recommendation letter (non-family, ideally Japan-based)

  • Oct 24 – Nov 6 – Final Interviews (Language Schools)
