Study in Australia with Scholarship at University of Tasmania 2026

Website University of Tasmania

The University of Tasmania offers several competitive scholarships for students who want to study a research degree such as a PhD or a research-based master’s program.

Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance, research experience, and how well the applicant matches the university’s key research areas. Priority is given to new applicants.

Each scholarship follows the official rules of admission and selection at the university.

Scholarships may help pay for living expenses, tuition fees, and relocation costs.

There are three main types of scholarships available.

Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP)

This scholarship supports excellent research students who are starting a higher degree by research.

The living allowance is 33,511 Australian dollars per year, as of 2025. This amount is adjusted every year on January 1.

The standard duration is up to three and a half years for a PhD and up to two years for a master’s degree. This is slightly shorter than the full allowed time for research programs.

For international students, tuition fees must be paid unless a tuition scholarship is also awarded. Domestic students do not pay tuition fees; they are covered under the RTP Fee Offset.

Students relocating to Tasmania for study can receive up to 2,000 Australian dollars in relocation support.

The RTP does not cover student services fees, health insurance, or visa costs. These must be paid by the student.

Students who already receive an RTP and wish to transfer must reapply under the same conditions as other applicants.

Indigenous Research Training Program (RTP)

This scholarship is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who meet the Australian Government’s official criteria.

The living allowance is 52,352 Australian dollars per year, as of 2025.

The duration is the same as the standard RTP scholarship: three and a half years for PhD and two years for master’s.

Tuition fees are fully covered for domestic students under the RTP Fee Offset.

Relocation support of up to 2,000 Australian dollars is available for eligible students moving to Tasmania.

This scholarship does not cover student services fees or other costs like health insurance and visas.

Students who already hold an Indigenous RTP and wish to transfer must also reapply under the same rules.

Tasmania Graduate Research Scholarship (TGRS)

The TGRS is available to students across all research fields. It is awarded to applicants who show strong research skills and potential.

The living allowance is 33,511 Australian dollars per year, as of 2025.

The duration is up to three and a half years for PhD students and up to two years for master’s students.

Domestic students have their tuition fees covered by the RTP Fee Offset. International students must pay tuition fees unless they receive a separate tuition scholarship.

Relocation support of up to 2,000 Australian dollars is also available.

This scholarship does not cover other student costs such as student service fees, visa costs, or health insurance. The student must pay these costs.
